The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is on the cusp of a significant milestone, as it stands at the starting blocks of legislative development. Time to bring the product pass to life!

In this context, the pioneering work of Catena-X is honored, which enables data exchange in an open and collaborative data space for the automotive industry. Catena-X is not only setting the early standards for the DPP but is also taking the lead in defining data models and developing applications that facilitate the seamless exchange of crucial information.

However, in addition to the standard(s) itself DPP implementation requires technical solutions to enable companies to provide the DPP as required by legislation. In this context several obstacles/challenges emerge, such as:

  • How to populate the DPP with data sourced from diverse company systems, e.g. PLM systems?
  • How to achieve smart integration at a semantic level considering the amount of passes (and corresponding vocabularies) to be dealt with in the future?
  • How to establish trust and to make sure that the product pass is valid?

In our forthcoming presentation, we aim to shed light on the initial approaches and concrete examples from Catena-X and T-Systems that illuminate the path forward. By exploring real-world use cases and practical applications, we hope to contribute to the broader conversation surrounding the DPP, its potential, and its role in advancing sustainability and circular economy objectives.
